From DamavandPro, these Sainfoin Seeds (Onobrychis vicifolia) are intended for establishing a forage legume that can be used for grazing, hay or silage. Highly palatable with an excellent nutritional balance, sainfoin is suited to free-draining chalk, sandy soils and limestone-rich downlands, and is noted for its drought resistance and strong frost tolerance once established.
Often sown as a pure stand, sainfoin can also be included in mixtures with non-aggressive companion grasses such as meadow fescue and Timothy to help bulk out hay crops and support weed competition. For hay production, cutting at 50% bloom is recommended to help prevent leaf shatter. With appropriate management and by avoiding heavy grazing and poaching, it has the potential to persist for 3–5 years or longer, with full yield typically achieved in the second year.
Average seeds per kg: approximately 50,000. Average protein content: 18%.
