This three-book collection brings together Dr Steven R Gundry MD’s titles The Plant Paradox, The Longevity Paradox and The Energy Paradox. Across the set, Dr Gundry presents his views on how particular proteins in foods, the way we live over time, and internal systems within the body relate to health and wellbeing.

Each book focuses on a distinct area. The Plant Paradox discusses lectins, described here as plant-based proteins found in a wide range of foods. The Longevity Paradox outlines an approach to ageing well that centres on the microorganisms that live within our bodies. The Energy Paradox links immune malfunction with mental and physical symptoms associated with fatigue.

Synopses

The Plant Paradox

Dr Steven Gundry argues that gluten is one type of lectin, described as a common and highly toxic plant-based protein. He states that lectins are found not only in grains such as wheat, but also in many foods often considered healthy, including a range of fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans and conventional dairy products. The book explains that these proteins occur in parts of plants such as seeds, grains, skins, rinds and leaves, and are presented as a natural defence against predators.

The Longevity Paradox

Drawing on work with thousands of patients, Dr Gundry suggests that the “diseases of ageing” are not simply a result of age, but a byproduct of how we have lived over decades. He sets out an approach to ageing well based on supporting the health of the microorganisms that live within our bodies.

The Energy Paradox

Dr Gundry expands on earlier discussions of gut, microbiome and mitochondrial health, connecting immune malfunction with fatigue-related symptoms. These include exhaustion, brain fog, depression, anxiety and low metabolism. He describes fatigue as a signal from the body intended to indicate that something is wrong.
