We managed to source 3 large slabs in Derbyshire from a old large Wych Elm tree that fell down. The tree wasn’t harvested or purposely grown for a woodworker like myself to use but rather lived an entire lengthy life in the fields of Derbyshire, and fell naturally. The tree was cut up into slabs by a small local independent mill to around 6.5cm thick and has been air dried for 2-3 years on his farm.
Rare Wych Elm Live Edge, a stunning piece of natural beauty that will make a statement in any space. With its unique figure and live edge, this piece showcases the raw beauty of the elm wood. What makes this piece even more special is that it was not farmed for woodworking purposes, but rather fell naturally, adding to its rarity. We take pride in finding wood like this and bringing it to life in a way that highlights its natural beauty
We've sourced three slabs of this highly sought-after wood and will be making as many boards as possible. Each board will have a completely natural live edge, showcasing the unique character of the wood. With a thickness of around 5cm or more, these boards are substantial and durable. To ensure stability, each board will be fitted with four non-slip feet and sanded smooth.
Each piece is unique and ranges from standard to uniquely large sizes. We take great care in preparing each piece, oiling them with mineral oil and waxing them with our homemade Bess wax board butter, making them ready for immediate use. These pieces are incredibly limited and as rare as they come.
All boards are handmade and picked by us with care.
IMPORTANT: Each board is completely unique and one of a kind!
