Legends of Dune is a three-book set comprising The Butlerian Jihad, The Machine Crusade and The Battle Of Corrin. The collection opens in the Time of Tyrants, when powerful computers are used to take control of the Old Empire, including Earth. Ambitious rulers transfer their minds into mechanical bodies, creating immortal man-machine hybrids known as cymeks, before the planetary computer minds called Omnius seize power for themselves.

Across the set, humanity’s resistance gathers momentum as the Butlerian Jihad begins, even as Earth is left a radioactive ruin. Serena Butler becomes a symbol for oppressed people, inspiring a war against the thinking computers led by Xavier Harkonnen and Vorian Atreides. As Omnius retreats to a final stronghold and the surviving Titans prepare new lieutenants, the struggle continues during uneasy years of peace in which some forget the threat, while others remain vigilant.

Synopses

The Butlerian Jihad

In the Time of Tyrants, high-powered computers are used to seize control of the Old Empire, including Earth. The tyrants translate their brains into mobile mechanical bodies and create cymeks, immortal man-machine hybrids. The planetary computers known as Omnius then take control, beginning a thousand years of brutal rule by thinking machines.

As disobedience and plotting continue, Omnius decides it no longer needs either human beings or the cymeks.

The Machine Crusade

Earth is a radioactive ruin, but the opening campaign of the Butlerian Jihad brings new hope to mankind. Serena Butler, whose murdered child becomes a symbol for oppressed humanity, inspires a war against the thinking computers led by Xavier Harkonnen and Vorian Atreides.

Four Titans still remain, and Omnius continues to wield most of its power.

The Battle Of Corrin

Omnius retreats to its last stronghold and plans a new strategy that could undo the victories of the Butlerian Jihad. The surviving Titans create new lieutenants to carry out their will when they return to attack the human beings they once ruled.

In years of peace, many forget their machine enemies, but others remember and learn from their triumphs.
