Synopsis

The series opens with Lemony Snicket cautioning readers about the misery ahead in The Bad Beginning. After their parents’ banker places the children with Count Olaf, he attempts to claim their inheritance, including an effort to marry Violet in the first book.

The source states that Olaf continues to devise new plots throughout the collection, at times forcing a guardian to write a suicide note and appearing disguised as a school coach. The Baudelaire orphans also learn that their parents belonged to a secret society, leading them to places such as the Mortmain Mountains and the Hotel Denouement. In the final book, the children reach an island, where the source says Count Olaf receives retribution for his actions.
