Treatment & maintenance

Clean regularly with mild soapy water. Apply a high-quality wood sealant or stain every 1-3 years. Inspect for cracks, loose fixings or wear and tighten or replace hardware as required. If painting, use a durable exterior wood paint designed for treated timber. Trim climbing plants to reduce excess weight and trapped moisture, and maintain good airflow around the structure.
