This four-book set brings together a sequence of story collections featuring Too Small Tola, a young girl living in a flat in Lagos, Nigeria. Although she is small, Tola is determined and repeatedly shows how capable she can be. She shares her home with her sister Moji, described as very clever; her brother Dapo, who is very fast; and Grandmummy, who is very bossy.

Across the books, Tola takes on everyday challenges and responsibilities, from trips to the market to helping when things go wrong at home. Later stories introduce news of a deadly virus and lockdown, which changes family life as Moji and Dapo go to live elsewhere and Grandmummy cannot go out to work. When lockdown ends, Tola returns to the crowded flat with more problems to solve, including her own.

Synopses

Too Small Tola

Three stories about a determined young girl who lives in a Lagos flat with Moji, Dapo and Grandmummy. Tola carries home a basket of yams and vegetables, chilli peppers and fish from the market, fetches water from the well when the taps do not work, and helps when Mr Abdul the tailor needs goods delivered quickly.

Too Small Tola and the Three Fine Girls

Three stories set in the same Lagos home. Tola rescues Grandmummy’s most prized possession when it goes missing, uses her maths when Grandmummy becomes ill, and, in the title story, finds a way to feel “just as fine” as the three girls she admires when Grandmummy cannot afford new clothes.

Too Small Tola Gets Tough

Tola discovers the secret of multiplication and division and is delighted. Then news arrives of a deadly virus and lockdown, and family life changes as Moji and Dapo go away and Grandmummy cannot go out to work, leaving Tola to do so instead.

Too Small Tola Makes It Count

With lockdown over, Tola returns to the crowded family flat in Lagos. Although she is home and safe, there are still many problems to solve, including her own, and Tola faces them as a thoughtful, kind and clever girl.
