This stunning artisanal serving plate made from solid mahogany wood, coloured using batik technique. Intricate design carefully wax by batik artist to create a resist and the wood is then dyed with batik dye. Finally the wax is removed revealing the batik design and wood texture underneath, before being sealed and polished to ensure the plate is safe for serving food. This is a unique and ancient craft from Indonesia, producing a truly one-of-a kind serving plate that are not only functional but also beautiful.
These hand-dyed plates inspired by the rare full bloom of a local Malaysian plant, Kantan. The Kantan flower buds are found in local market, and commonly used in making laksa.
This beautiful hand-dye plate is ideal to use as a centrepiece for your dinner party, serving up your cheese and grazing platter. A unique home gift with a good story for any occassions.
All wood is dried until it reaches a moisture content of 12-15% to meet export standard. We finish the plate with a coat of bio wax to prevent water seepage into the grain and to help prevent the growth of bacteria.
