Artisanal Batik Wood Coaster

Our Little Mekar Batik Wood coasters come single, set of 2 or 4.

These unique batik coasters made from solid mahogany wood, coloured using batik technique. Intricate design carefully wax by batik artist to create a resist and the wood is then dyed with batik dye.  Finally the wax is removed revealing the batik design and wood texture underneath, before being sealed and polished to ensure the coaster is food safe. 

"Mekar" meaning bloom in javanese. The design of this coaster draw on inspiration from the beauty that blooming flowers in unlikely places. They are a great fit for nature lovers or someone who is intrigue by this ancient javanese craft. 

This unique set of batik wooden coasters will make a great house warming gift or a lovely addition to a wedding list. They are also a great present for a 5th Wooden Wedding anniversary.

Care Instruction

We finish the coaster with a coat of bio wax to prevent water seepage into the grain and to help prevent the growth of bacteria.

  • For maintenance, it is recommended to polish with bio wax every month. We do not recommend coating the wood with coconut or olive oil as it may produce a rancid smell.
  • It is not recommended to soak the bowl. It's recommended to wash with soap, rinse and wipe dry immediately.
