Mrs Browne Trilogy is a three-book collection by Brendan O’Carroll, bringing together the full Agnes Browne trilogy. Set against the backdrop of Dublin life, the series follows Agnes Browne and her family as she adjusts to widowhood, work and the changing demands of a busy household.

Across the three instalments, Agnes deals with everyday pressures alongside major upheavals, including family run-ins, financial strain, moves, emigration and the arrival of a new generation. Each book continues her story with a consistent focus on dialogue and character, presented here as the first, second and final volumes of the trilogy.

Synopses

The Mammy

Agnes Browne becomes a widow and is faced with immediate practical realities, including a visit to the Social Welfare Office. Living in the James Larkin Flats, she supports her family through income from her Moore Street stall, while sharing friendship and humour with her pal Marion.

The Chisellers

Three years after Redser’s death, Agnes continues as mother, father and referee to her seven children. With help from her eldest and from Pierre, she navigates family tragedy and success, a move to suburban Finglas, and a threat from an unscrupulous gangster.

The Granny

Entering the 1980s, Agnes is thirteen years widowed, running a fruit stall in Moore Street and raising six children, most of them adults. Becoming a grandmother comes as a shock and, as the family grows, she faces new problems including a son’s brush with the law and the heartbreak of emigration.
