Soil preparation matters: avoid sowing into damp ground, particularly heavy clay, and wait until the soil has thoroughly dried.

Broadcast seeding is recommended, similar to sowing a lawn. A lightweight, inert carrier such as sawdust, peat moss, clean sand, or vermiculite can be used to help distribute seed evenly.
