A Delicate Floral Print Showcasing the Beauty of Masterwort Blooms

This piece of flower art is an exceptionally beautiful example of the Little Masterwort plant in full bloom. It is a stunning flower that is part of the Astrantia perennial family that was introduced to Britain way back around the 1500’s. They are native to Europe where they favour moist soil and can often be found naturally in woodlands.

They are the kind of plant that draws your eye in for a closer look. When you do you realise it isn’t a single flower but actually a flowerhead made up from tiny flowers held on delicate stalks that are backed by petal-like bracts. This creates the impression of a single flower head that resembles a star or firework going off.

The beautiful and unusual Astrantia flowers grow to around 1 -2 feet high and are strangely part of the same family as carrots. They come in a wide variety of colours and the name astrantia derives from the Greek aster referring to the plant’s starry shaped flower heads.
