Hornby Mk3 TF LNER 41099

Built for higher-speed running on Britain’s railways, the Mk3 coach became a defining part of the InterCity 125 era. This Hornby model recreates the Mk3 TF in LNER livery, numbered 41099, for use as part of a model railway coaching rake. The Mk3 design introduced notable advances over earlier stock, including secondary air suspension between the bogies and coach body, aerodynamic underframe skirting, and braking and wheel slip protection systems intended to support faster deceleration.

Mk3 coaches first appeared with the HST prototype in 1972 and entered service from 1975 alongside the Class 43 power cars. In later years, LNER inherited IC 125 sets following the re-nationalisation of the InterCity East Coast franchise, with the final LNER-operated IC 125 running on a farewell tour at the end of 2019.
