Hornby Mk4 Standard Coach B LNER

Developed for the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, the Mk4 coach became a defining part of modern InterCity travel from its 1989 service entry. This Hornby Mk4 Standard Coach B recreates the type in LNER livery as an authentically replicated model railway coach, reflecting the stock that later passed into Evershot Rail Group ownership and continued in service with successive InterCity East Coast franchise operators.

The real Mk4 fleet introduced notable advances over earlier designs, including push-button operated plug-type doors and fully sealed gangways, with a design influenced by the Advanced Passenger Train. A major refurbishment programme between October 2003 and November 2005, carried out by Bombardier Transportation for GNER, updated interiors and introduced onboard Wi‑Fi as part of ‘Project Mallard’.
