Hornby Mk4 Standard Coach E GNER 12432

Introduced for the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, the Mk4 coach became a defining part of InterCity East Coast services from 1989 onwards. This Hornby Mk4 Standard Coach E in GNER livery, numbered 12432, represents the fleet built at Metro-Cammell’s Washwood Heath factory between 1989 and 1992, developed with a range of improvements over the earlier Mk3 design.

The real Mk4 stock later passed to Evershot Rail Group following privatisation in 1996 and was leased to successive InterCity East Coast franchise operators, beginning with Great North Eastern Railway (GNER). A major refurbishment programme ran from October 2003 to November 2005 under contract from GNER, with Bombardier Transportation introducing new seating arrangements and onboard Wi‑Fi as part of ‘Project Mallard’.
