Hornby Mk4 Standard Coach F GNER 12303

Introduced for the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, the Mk4 coach became a defining part of late-20th-century British rail travel. This Hornby Mk4 Standard Coach F in GNER livery, numbered 12303, brings that era to a model railway layout with an authentically replicated finish.

The real Mk4 fleet was built at Metro-Cammell’s Washwood Heath factory, with 314 Mk4 coaches produced between 1989 and 1992. Entering service in 1989, they later passed to Evershot Rail Group following privatisation in 1996 and were leased to successive InterCity East Coast franchise operators, including Great North Eastern Railway (GNER). Between October 2003 and November 2005, Bombardier Transportation carried out ‘Project Mallard’ refurbishment work for GNER, introducing new seating arrangements and onboard Wi‑Fi.
