Synopsis

Adultery is not presented as a typical theme in Jane Austen’s work, yet it disrupts the otherwise relatively peaceful household at Mansfield Park and leads to unexpected results. The heroine, Fanny Price, is described as diffident and much put upon, and must struggle to cope with the consequences.

As events unfold, she is forced to re-examine her own feelings while enduring the contrasting attitudes of those around her, including cheerful amorality, old-fashioned indifference and priggish disapproval.
