Synopsis

Huckleberry Finn, best friend of Tom Sawyer, longs for adventure, but the people of St Petersburg, Missouri, including Widow Douglas and Judge Thatcher, are determined to “civilise” him. Restless with everyday life, Huck runs away and begins a journey along the River Mississippi with Jim, a runaway slave.

As their trip unfolds, they encounter a range of characters, from murderers and con artists to do-gooders and others. Mark Twain weaves an adventure story that also includes satire on racism, the American way of life and morality in 19th-century America.
