A Little Princess Story Collection brings together ten stories from Tony Ross’ Little Princess series. Across the collection, the Little Princess wants a lot and will do whatever she can to get what she wants, even when things do not go to plan.
Designed for younger readers aged 3+, this set features Tony Ross’ signature illustrations, helping to bring each story to life. From opening a shop and insisting on new shoes, to camping attempts and musical experiments, the Little Princess’ determined approach leads to plenty of lively moments.
When the Little Princess opens her own shop, it is an instant success, with the King and his courtiers queuing to buy her ingenious objects. Later, when customers compare what they have bought, she has some explaining to do.
The Little Princess refuses to put anything on her feet until the Maid shows her a special box. Inside are gleaming red shoes she is so proud of that she will not take them off.
On the day of the royal picnic, the Little Princess wakes with a nasty, snuffly cold. Determined not to let it ruin her fun, she decides to carry on, even if it means bending the rules a little.
The Little Princess adores her tiny tadpole and keeps him in a bowl by her bed, topped up with pond water and fresh weed. Although everyone says tadpoles are not really pets, she does not care, until she wakes up to a big surprise.
The Little Princess hates having her hair combed because it always hurts. When the King puts her in charge of combing, she makes sure everyone in the castle has beautifully combed hair, leaving her own until last, with disastrous consequences.
The Little Princess decides she wants to be a pirate, and nobody in the kingdom is safe. To be a proper pirate she must eat real pirate food and do real pirate jobs, and she is not so keen on that.
The Little Princess wants to play camping, but grown-ups keep stepping in and spoiling her fun. Again and again she and her toys search for a new hideout, hoping to find a tent truly fit for a princess.
The Little Princess needs to rescue her space hopper from an apple tree, but she is not tall enough. She tries everything she thinks will make her bigger, until a very simple solution presents itself.
When a new music box arrives at the castle, the Little Princess decides to learn an instrument too. She makes a funnel trumpet and practises all over the castle, but not everyone appreciates her music as much as she does.
On a beautiful winter’s day, the Little Princess finds her old sledge and has a great time until the Chef speeds past on a brand new shiny one. When the King finally gives in, she thinks her dreams have come true.
