Entering RAF service with No. 84 Squadron at RAF Manston in March 1936, the Avro Anson marked a notable step forward as the first monoplane type to achieve squadron service status and the first RAF aircraft to feature a retractable undercarriage. This Airfix British Avro Anson Mk.1 plastic kit recreates the Mk. I variant, which carried a fixed forward-firing .303 machine gun operated by the pilot and a single Lewis gun in a manually traversed dorsal turret, with provision for a modest bomb load.
During the Second World War, Avro Ansons were moved from frontline duties into secondary training roles, supporting the Empire Air Training Scheme in the UK and overseas. Produced as a 1:48 scale detailed plastic kit, it includes a decal sheet and easy-to-follow instructions, with 199 separate parts for a rewarding build that also requires painting. Care is needed when removing parts from the sprues during construction.
