This two-book collection pairs two novels by Ciara Smyth: The Falling in Love Montage and Not My Problem. Each story centres on a teenage protagonist balancing relationships and school life, while trying to keep everything under control as complications build.

Across the set, plans are tested by real life. One novel follows a summer shaped by parties, horror films and a challenge to approach romance “like in the movies”. The other focuses on an unexpected turn into a school “fixer”, taking on other people’s issues while personal chaos grows.

The Falling in Love Montage

After breaking up with her ex Hannah, seventeen-year-old Saoirse plans a summer of partying, getting drunk, watching horror films and kissing girls, determined to put family troubles aside before university. When she meets Ruby, a romcom fan who believes in true love, Ruby dares Saoirse to try a summer romance with the serious parts removed. The question becomes what happens when the “falling in love montage” ends.

Not My Problem

When Aideen agrees to help ambitious class swot Maebh Kowalska manage an intense workload, she does not expect to become the school “fixer”. She begins handling other students’ problems, from stealing confiscated mobiles to breaking into parties, even as her own life feels increasingly chaotic. Spending more time with Maebh and chatterbox Kavi, Aideen starts to wonder whether every problem can really be solved.
