Synopses

Sophies Snail

Sophie adores animals, particularly small creatures such as snails, and is set on becoming a farmer when she grows up. There is, however, one creature she cannot stand: Dawn.

Sophies Tom

This bumper edition brings together the first three Sophie stories. Sophie dreams of being a farmer, with Great-great-aunt Al from Scotland as her best friend and Dawn as her worst enemy.

Sophie Hits Six

Sophie’s cat, Tom, astonishes everyone by producing four kittens, with more animals arriving during the year Sophie turns six. The story follows life on the farm, including a new farming interest and a sporting success, and is read by Bernard Cribbins.

Sophie in the Saddle

Sophie wants to be a lady farmer and keeps an ever-growing group of animals, including a puppy called Puddles the terrier. On summer holiday in Cornwall, she stays on a farm, makes new friends, begins riding lessons, learns to swim and meets an old enemy on the beach.

She has her first ride on Bumblebee, a grey pony, and finds she is a natural rider. When she learns that riding lessons are very expensive, she is upset to stop until next summer.

Sophie is Seven

Sophie visits a farm, makes a big impression at the school concert, celebrates her seventh birthday and starts riding lessons. Throughout, she remains small but determined, with a strong love of animals and plans to be a farmer.

Sophie’s Lucky

In this reissued story, Sophie dreams of having a pony but doubts she will ever be that lucky. She gets a lucky break when Great Aunt Al invites her to Scotland.
