Green Day ‘American Idiot’ is a CD release of the band’s seventh studio album, originally released on September 20, 2004. The album is a concept record described by the band members as a “punk rock opera”, centred on the character Jesus of Suburbia, a lower-middle-class American adolescent anti-hero.

The songs reflect disillusionment and dissent among a generation shaped by events including the Iraq War. The album charted in 27 countries, reached number one in 19, sold 16 million copies worldwide, and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2005.
