Hornby Mk3 TFD LNER 41100

Built for higher-speed running on Britain’s railways, the Mk3 coach became a defining part of the InterCity 125 era. This Hornby Mk3 TFD LNER 41100 model railway coach represents the later LNER period, after the InterCity East Coast franchise was re-nationalised and operated under the LNER name. It makes a considered addition to an LNER-themed rake, reflecting the final years of IC 125 operation on the route, including the farewell tour at the end of 2019.

The real Mk3 design introduced notable engineering changes over the Mk2, including secondary air suspension between the bogies and coach body, aerodynamic underframe skirting, disc brakes and wheel slip protection. At 75ft (23m) long, Mk3 coaches also increased capacity compared with earlier stock, helping shape the look and performance of high-speed services from the mid-1970s onwards.
