Hornby Mk4 Open First Coach Transport for Wales 11324

Developed for the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, the Mk4 coach introduced a number of advances over the Mk3 fleet, including push-button operated plug-type doors and fully sealed gangways. This Hornby model recreates the Mk4 Open First Coach in Transport for Wales livery, numbered 11324, bringing a modern British rail coaching stock subject to a model railway layout or collection.

In service from 1989, the Mk4 fleet later passed to Evershot Rail Group following privatisation in 1996 and has been leased to successive InterCity East Coast franchise operators. A major refurbishment programme ran between October 2003 and November 2005, carried out by Bombardier Transportation under contract from GNER, introducing new seating arrangements and onboard Wi‑Fi as part of ‘Project Mallard’.
