Built for the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, the Mk4 coach became a key part of British rail travel from 1989 onwards. This Hornby Mk4 Standard Coach in Transport for Wales livery recreates the distinctive Mk4 design that introduced notable changes over the earlier Mk3 stock, including push-button operated plug-type doors and fully sealed gangways. The real coaches were designed for a top speed of 140mph and drew on ideas from the Advanced Passenger Train, with profiled sides intended to accommodate tilt of up to 6° alongside newly fitted tilting bogies.
