Synopses

The Primrose Railway Children

Phoebe Robinson, who loves inventing stories like her dad, is unsettled when he disappears and the family moves to a remote cottage. As she struggles to settle in, a local railway station and its steam trains bring a new rhythm to their days. Questions linger about what her mum may be hiding, and whether her dad is safe.

Project Fairy

Mab grows up surrounded by her mum’s passion for fairies, a comfort after her dad has left. A birthday fairy dress leads to a school gift: a book about Victorian fairies, whose illustrations are far from what Mab expects. Then something small falls from the pages, changing what Mab thought she knew.

The Other Edie Trimmer

Edie, captivated by Victorian life and eager for the lead in her drama club’s Oliver, begins writing in a genuine Victorian notebook. Her story takes an unexpected turn when she finds herself in Victorian London, living as another Edie Trimmer. With the threat of a workhouse looming, she must hold on to who she is and find a way back.

The Girl Who Wasn't There

Luna and her sister Aurora move with their dad into a tower that initially feels like a fairy tale. Reality intrudes: the building needs repairs, money is tight, and one room at the top is off limits. At school, Aurora retreats into an intense friendship with an imaginary companion, raising fears about what is real and whether the tower carries a curse.

Star of the Show

Tess clings to dancing through hardship after her mum dies and her pa leaves, with little food or money for her and her siblings. While her older brother and sister search for work, she stays at The Ragged School and cares for baby Ada. Determined not to give up on her dream, Tess sets her sights on dancing in the Cinderella pantomime at the Grand Theatre.
