Set in very different places, the stories follow characters who are forced to question the rules around them, adjust to unfamiliar surroundings and hold on to what they value most.

Included in the set are Running on the Roof of the World, When the Mountains Roared and Swimming Against the Storm. From Tibet under Chinese occupation, to the mountains of India, and a fishing village on the Louisiana coast, each book presents a distinct setting shaped by conflict, change and the natural environment.

Running on the Roof of the World

Tash lives under strict rules in Tibet, a country occupied by Chinese soldiers. After a man sets himself on fire in protest and soldiers take her parents, she and her best friend Sam decide to break those rules. They plan to flee Tibet and travel to India to seek help from the Dalai Lama.

When the Mountains Roared

Ruby is taken from Australia to the mountains of India when her father moves to set up a hotel. Living in a run-down building in the wilderness, surrounded by scorpions, bears and leopards, she finds it hard to settle. Ruby believes India cannot feel like home without her mum.

Swimming Against the Storm

Twelve-year-old Eliza and her sister Avery have always lived in a small fishing village on the Louisiana coast, growing up among turtles, pelicans and porpoises. With sea levels rising, their home is under threat. Hoping to protect the land, the sisters secretly search the swamp for the loup-garou, believing that proof of the legendary creature will force the government to safeguard its habitat and their community.
