This eight-book set brings together a run of investigations led by DI Kelly Porter, set largely in the Lake District and beyond. Across the collection, Kelly is drawn into cases shaped by secrecy, shifting loyalties and long-buried truths, from suspicious deaths on exclusive estates to disappearances in the fells.

As the stories unfold, Kelly faces complex crimes that range from cold cases and linked murders to investigations that pull her back towards London and old colleagues. Alongside the pressure of pursuing dangerous offenders, she must also contend with personal revelations and figures from her past, as separate threads begin to converge and the stakes move ever closer to home.

Synopses

Dead End

When the seventh Earl of Lowesdale is found hanging at Wasdale Hall, the death is assumed to be self-inflicted until the coroner identifies signs of foul play. As DI Kelly Porter investigates, two young hikers go missing, and the search begins to connect with other unresolved disappearances.

With secrets and lies surrounding the estate, both cases lead back to Wasdale Hall, where Kelly must uncover what is being concealed behind its walls.

Dark Game

After a scandal forces her out of the Met, DI Kelly Porter returns to the Lake District and begins work on a cold case: the abduction and murder of ten-year-old Lottie Davies. At the same time, she investigates an illegal immigrant case and a robbery following the death of local businessman Colin Day.

As evidence builds, Kelly uncovers a wider web of criminal activity beneath the surface of the area’s tourist towns, putting her at increasing risk as she closes in on the truth.

Bitter Edge

DI Kelly Porter investigates the death of a teenage girl who jumps from a cliff, a case ruled suicide but one that leaves Kelly searching for answers. As multiple enquiries converge on the girl’s school, a darker story begins to emerge.

Kelly is forced into a confrontation with an old foe determined to reclaim what he believes is his, while her personal life shifts around Johnny, her family and the father she has only just discovered.

Blood Rites

A young woman is found unclothed and unable to speak at an ancient stone circle, and it is unclear whether a crime has been committed. As DI Kelly Porter’s team investigates, the woman disappears, and a brutal murder follows with sinister markings left at the scene.

The case leads into beliefs in ancient ways and old resentments that have turned violent, and Kelly must confront a figure from her past as she tries to stop the killer.

Deep Fear

On a summer morning in the Lake District, a woman’s body is discovered outside a church, murdered with a brutal, symbolic act carried out on her corpse. DI Kelly Porter leads the investigation, determined to identify the killer.

As more deaths occur, it becomes clear the offender is dangerous and persistent, and Kelly must piece together the clues before the threat moves closer to home.

Bold Lies

A murder in the Lake District and a double assassination in a secret laboratory in London’s West End appear unconnected at first. As unexpected links emerge, DI Kelly Porter follows the trail to the capital.

Back among former colleagues and working alongside her ex, DCI Matt Carter, Kelly must navigate a web of deceit that reaches into the highest levels of power.

Little Doubt

When Ella Watson, a woman of wealth and status, is stabbed to death in broad daylight, the Lake District community is shaken. Later the same day, Keira Bradley is also killed.

While Ella’s death is treated as a tragedy, Keira’s murder on the notorious Beacon Estate is presented as another statistic in a dangerous place.

Lost Cause

Kevin Flint is a young man with a reputation for being odd, who explores hidden corners of the Lake District and watches what he finds there. Having witnessed depravity that excites him, the question becomes whether he will cross the line from bystander to perpetrator.

As Kelly’s personal life takes unexpected turns, her instincts tell her the answers lie with Kevin, if only she can find the right questions.
