From a Scottish island where Luke’s holiday feels bleak and unwelcoming, to an Exmoor farm in the grip of a harsh winter, and a home changed by absence and new tensions, the collection explores moments of isolation alongside the possibility of friendship and hope.

Synopses

Otters' Moon

Luke is unhappy with his life: his father is occupied with a new family, and his mother no longer feels like herself. When she insists on a holiday on a remote Scottish island, Luke finds the sun absent, the locals silent and the seabirds threatening.

He meets Meg, who lives with her grandfather, Seth, in a boarded-up boat house on the beach. Following her to the forbidden Puffin Bay, Luke discovers a world filled with life and colour.

Snow Foal

Eleven-year-old Addie goes to stay with a foster family on a remote Exmoor farm during a bitter winter. Carrying hurt, anger and mistrust, she struggles to connect with those around her.

After rescuing a tiny wild foal from the snow, Addie begins to feel less alone. As adventure and unexpected friendship grow, she becomes determined that they will both find what it means to be home again.

Raven Winter

Since Billie’s nature-loving father went to prison, life has felt dulled, and she feels increasingly isolated. With her mother’s new boyfriend now living with them, home is marked by tense silences.

When Billie finds an injured young raven and nurses him back to health, she discovers friendship and hope, along with a letter that could bring her closer to reuniting with her dad.
