First seen on the North African front in late 1942, the Tiger I Ausf. E quickly became one of Germany’s most formidable heavy tanks of the Second World War. This Tamiya German Tiger I Early Production model kit recreates the early production vehicles built from November 1942 to July 1943, reflecting the incremental changes introduced during that period.
Development began in May 1941, with Henschel selected over Porsche after prototype trials in April 1942. The Henschel design carried 100mm frontal armour and 80mm side armour, and mounted the 8.8cm KwK 36 L/56 main gun. Early production updates included air pre-cleaners added from November 1942, a partially strengthened mantlet and five mounting points for “S” mine dischargers from December, plus a loader’s periscope introduced from January 1943. Intended for adult constructors, it suits modellers who enjoy historically grounded builds.
