This four-book collection brings together Jenny McLachlan’s Land of Roar series, following twins Arthur and Rose and the fantasy world of Roar, reached through a folding bed in their grandad’s attic. Across the set, the twins return to a place shaped by imagination, filled with dragons, mermaids, unicorns and ninja wizards, where ordinary surroundings can lead to extraordinary adventures.

The series is described as celebrating the power of imagination and is suited to children aged 8, 9, 10 and upwards, with comparisons for fans of Narnia, Jumanji and How to Train Your Dragon. The books feature illustrations throughout by Ben Mantle, alongside fold-out cover artwork.

Synopses

The Land of Roar

When Arthur and Rose were younger, they were heroes in Roar, an imaginary world found through the folding bed in their grandad’s attic. Now that they are eleven, it feels like a memory until a trip to clear the attic takes a sudden turn when Grandad is pulled into the bed and disappears.

Return to Roar

Arthur and Rose are eager to go back to Roar, the fantasy world they reach through their grandad’s attic. It is a place of dragons, mermaids, unicorns and ninja wizards, where anything they can imagine can be real.

The Battle for Roar

Back in Roar, Rose and Arthur set out on a voyage that takes them beyond The End. Their adventure is filled with secrets, surprises and fairies with fangs, until a mysterious storm changes everything and leaves them shipwrecked on a strange island.

Dragon Riders of Roar

When the twins cannot get to Roar, Rose writes about it instead, creating the Dragonlands. She invents a school for young Dragon Riders, with ferocious dragons and rumours of witches rising, and writes herself as the star pupil.
