Did the debut album from London dandies The Libertines live up to the hype? With Mick Jones of The Clash at the helm of production, fierce tracks like "Horror Show" and "The Boy Looked at Johnny" clatter like first-generation punk classics. But like the Strokes, the Libertines manage to imbue snotty garage rock with a kind of wistful romanticism that gives their raucous clatter a real soul. Although there's no trace of "What a Waster," the single that made their name, there's no shortage of excellent melodies here. "Boys in the Band" is a loving ode to a groupie, with frontmen Pete Doherty and Carl Barat bellowing, "And they all get it out / For the boys in the band. "

"I Get Along" proves that these guys have a knack for writing tight, edgy songs reminiscent of Jam and the Buzzcocks.

Limited 2LP black vinyl pressing - includes a bonus LP recorded live at The 100 Club 04/10/02
