The Ultimate Stink-tastic Collection is a ten-book set by Megan McDonald, bringing together stories about Stink Moody, Judy Moody’s younger brother. Across the collection, Stink approaches everyday worries and big ideas with determination, whether he is measuring himself day after day to check if he is getting shorter or trying out new plans when things do not go as expected.
The books follow Stink through school challenges, competitions and imaginative missions. His adventures include letter-writing with unexpected results, discovering a talent for sniffing, and campaigning to save Pluto. Along the way there are runaway guinea pigs to round up, a push to improve in gym, preparations for a Midnight Zombie Walk, and an aquarium sleepover that puts him close to the sharks he loves learning about.
Stink is short, and he is convinced he is getting even shorter. After repeatedly asking Judy to measure him, he decides to take action. When his efforts do not work, he starts to see that being short may not be such a problem.
Stink complains about a jawbreaker that did not break his jaw. His letter leads to surprising results, including a huge box of sweets. Before long, he realises he may be taking things too far.
On a class trip to the science museum’s Gross-Me-Out exhibition, Stink discovers his nose has serious sniffing power. Soon he is getting ready for a stinky-sneaker contest. The prize is the Golden Clothespin Award.
Stink Moody sets out to save Pluto. He wants his favourite celestial orb reinstated. In this adventure, he takes on the role of Solar System Superhero.
Three guinea pigs escape from the local pet shop. Stink and his friends Webster and Sophie spring into action as the Fantastic Fur Friends. They return the guinea pigs to Mrs. Birdwistle’s shop and uncover guinea pig pandemonium.
Stink needs a sport fast, and thumb wars are on his mind. He wonders whether his alter-ego, Shark Hammersmash, can wrestle a win or if a different approach will work better. After bringing home a report card that is not perfect, he aims to get into fighting shape and improve in gym.
With one week until the new Nightmare on Zombie Street book is released, Stink plans to be first in line at the Blue Frog Bookstore. He also wants to join the town’s Midnight Zombie Walk. While he waits, he and his friends make ketchup-stained zombie costumes, try to raise money for the book, and collect points for their school’s reading challenge.
After a close encounter with a mutant amphibian, Stink becomes freaky for frogs. Although he is in the Polliwog swim class and still struggles to put his face in the water, he becomes a swimming success.
Stink’s parents win an aquarium sleepover. He loves learning about sharks, but he is not sure he wants to sleep in the same room as them. The night could turn into his worst nightmare.
Stink encounters slime mould, described as looking like dog vomit and smelling like a corpse flower. Even as a super science geek, he is freaked out when it starts living and growing in his room. The mystery is not the Blob or the Glob, but slime mould.
