Synopses

Armistice Runner

Lily is struggling in her fell-running races and is also coming to terms with her gran’s Alzheimer’s. When she finds her great-great-grandfather’s First World War diaries, his account of bravery may help her reconnect with her gran and find new motivation.

D-Day Dog

Jack looks forward to a school trip to the D-Day landing beaches, eager to learn more about the war heroes he admires, including his dad, a Reserve soldier. When his dad is called up and life at home becomes difficult, Jack begins to question what he believes about war.

After the War

In summer 1945, the Second World War has ended and Yossi, Leo and Mordecai are among three hundred children who arrive in the English Lake District. After surviving Nazi concentration camps, they reach a place of safety where they hope to begin recovering.

Over the Line

For 90 minutes, the narrator forgets the shellfire, fear and hardship of life above the parapet. It is also Jack’s proudest moment as he makes his debut as a professional footballer, with hopes of playing for his country.

Arctic Star

In winter 1943, teenagers Frank, Joseph and Stephen join the Royal Navy and head to sea on their first mission during the Second World War. Their ship sails as part of an Arctic Convoy to Russia, delivering supplies to the Soviets.

Resist

As the Second World War continues, ordinary Dutch people in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands face danger and deprivation. With little food and the constant risk of arrest and enslavement, daily life becomes increasingly perilous.
