A fine Georgian period memorial locket. This circular locket has a diameter of 23mm, and the centre has 'engine turned' decoration around an enamelled centre, this red and sage green. The outer edge has foliate decoration, hand carved.
The reverse mirrors the front, but has a plain disc to the centre. The top ring has similar decoration and is in fob style that could be attached to a chain or bracelet, this swivels. Overall size 40x25mm.
The front hinges open to reveal a glazed area with plaitted hair under glass. There is an inscription on the inside cover, this has a name and a date, 1831. The reverse also has a hinge, again with a glazed area with a plait of hair under glass. Another inscription, name with a date of 1829.
Weight 13grams. No hallmarks, but tests as 15 carat gold. A lovely unusual item almost 200 years in age
