Anna Hibiscus Series 8 Book Set brings together eight stories about Anna Hibiscus, written by Atinuke. Anna lives in “amazing Africa” with her mother and father, her baby twin brothers, and a large extended family, and the series follows her at home as well as on visits to the village and to Canada.
Across the collection, Anna’s days are filled with family events and everyday adventures, from splashing in the sea and preparing for a party to travelling by bus through mangrove swamp and rainforest. The stories also include Anna meeting new people, making friends, and adjusting to change, including time with Grandmother and Grandfather in the village and a Christmas visit to her grandmother in Canada.
Anna Hibiscus lives in amazing Africa with her parents, her baby twin brothers, and lots of family. Her story includes splashing in the sea, preparing for a party, selling oranges, and hoping to see sweet, sweet snow.
While on holiday in the village with Grandmother and Grandfather, Anna makes friends with local children and teaches them their ABC and 123. After a boy takes a banana from her at the market, Anna learns about his situation and the two become friends; when he falls ill, she helps him get medical care, and Grandfather later invites him to live with them.
After visiting her grandma in Canada, Anna returns home to find that things have changed. She looks after an egg that does not hatch with the others, and later names the chick Snow White when it finally hatches.
Snow White causes trouble, and Anna tries to keep her out of mischief. Anna also receives a surprise visitor from Canada.
Anna is excited about visiting her grandmother in Canada and seeing snow for the first time. Before she leaves, she needs to find warm clothes for winter and say goodbye to the family she loves.
Anna and her family travel with Grandfather to the village, journeying through mangrove swamp and rainforest, scrubland and rivers, and over hills and mountains. They stay in the family house, which has no running water, electricity, road, or signal.
As cousin Joy prepares to get married and Grandfather talks about staying in the village, Anna faces changes in her life.
Anna travels to Canada for Christmas to visit her grandmother, whom she has never met, and she cannot wait to see snow. She adjusts to the cold by wearing many layers, eating different foods, and getting used to Granny’s dog, Qimmac.
Missing her brothers and cousins, she still makes friends, plays in the snow, and celebrates Christmas with Granny Canada.
Anna lives with her family in a big city, in a wonderful house with a beautiful garden. Her story includes singing for the president, getting into a tangle with her hair, and visiting the other side of the city.
In the eighth title of the series, Anna worries about her twin brothers, Double and Trouble, whose energy keeps them climbing and getting into trouble. At the same time, Grandfather is tired and struggles to stay awake, and Anna shows just how amazing she is.
