The Asterix Series 5 Collection brings together five adventures from the much-loved Gaulish world, spanning books 21 to 25. Across the set, Asterix, Obelix and their friends face challenges that range from Roman schemes and political manoeuvring to unexpected journeys far from home.

From disputed ownership of the village and a fiercely fought election campaign, to a storm-driven voyage that lands the heroes somewhere unfamiliar, each story places the indomitable Gauls in a new predicament. The collection also explores the impact of “big business” on village life, a confrontation sparked by Caesar’s praise of the Belgians, and a divided town where rival chieftains threaten a romance.

Synopses

Asterix and Caesars Gift

Legionary Tremensdelirius receives the title deeds to the Gaulish village as a bonus and swaps them with tavern landlord Orthopaedix for a drink. Asterix and his friends are unwilling to hand their home over, leading to a chieftaincy election campaign and a showdown with the Romans.

Asterix and the Great Crossing

While fishing at sea, Asterix and Obelix are blown off course by a storm and come ashore in a place that does not feel like a Roman colony. With teepees, totems and gobbling birds, and Viking explorers arriving by longship, the setting raises questions about this “strange New World” in 50 BC.

Obelix and Co

Julius Caesar sends Caius Preposterus, a graduate of the Latin school of Economics, to undermine the Gauls by introducing big business. Obelix’s menhir trade booms with the support of a heavy advertising campaign, before the story asks what happens when the market collapses.

Asterix in Belgium

Chief Vitalstatistix is outraged to learn that Caesar has called the Belgian tribes the bravest he knows. Joined by Asterix and Obelix, he travels to confront the Belgians, who turn out to be unexpectedly similar to the people back home.

Asterix and the Great Divide

A town is split in two by the fathers of two sweethearts, Histrionix and Melodrama, the children of rival chieftains. Asterix, Obelix and Getafix are called in to help reunite the village, with the possibility that magic may play a part.
