This five-book collection brings together later adventures featuring Asterix and Obelix, spanning stories of travel, intrigue and unexpected visitors to their Gaulish village. Across the set, the pair are drawn into quests that range from searching for vital ingredients to facing Roman schemes and unfamiliar challenges.
From the Middle East to the high seas, these tales introduce a mix of new allies and adversaries, including a Roman secret agent with a folding chariot, a disguised Prefect of Gaul, and a mysterious figure arriving by magic carpet. The collection also explores upheaval closer to home, as the village confronts new ideas, hidden plots and the consequences of magic potion misuse.
When a Phoenician merchant forgets Getafix’s order for rock oil, an essential ingredient in the magic potion, Asterix and Obelix set off to prospect for “black gold” in the Middle East. Along the way, they must contend with a Roman secret agent, Dubbelosix, and his folding chariot fitted with spy gadgets.
A baby boy is left in a basket outside Asterix’s hut, leaving Asterix and Obelix facing unfamiliar child-care. Meanwhile, Crismus Cactus, Prefect of Gaul, disguises himself as a Gaulish nursemaid, and the Romans pursue the child as Brutus hatches a plot against Julius Caesar.
Life in the village is disrupted whenever Cacofonix performs, with clouds gathering and rain falling. A fakir arrives on a magic carpet seeking help to end a drought in his kingdom, where his daughter Orinjade faces sacrifice to the gods, and Cacofonix’s talents become unexpectedly useful.
The village mothers hire Bravura, a woman bard, to teach their children, causing shock in Ancient Gaul. Bravura, Asterix and Obelix become unlikely allies as they push back against Julius Caesar’s secret weapon, with even Cacofonix drawn into the struggle.
After stealing Julius Caesar’s own galley, a group of slaves seek shelter in the Gaulish village, only to find it in crisis. Obelix suffers serious effects after secretly drinking magic potion, and his friends look to Absolutlifabulos, high priest of Atlantis, as sea battles with the Roman navy unfold.
