It blocks the rest of the visible spectrum, creating a darker sky background and isolating the O III light associated with objects such as the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell, Crescent and Orion nebulae.

An ultra-hard, vacuum-deposited coating is applied to block visual wavelengths from 400 to 700nm. This coating also reduces the coloured halos around bright stars that are common with less advanced O III filter coatings.
