This 11-book set brings together two series by Michelle Paver: Chronicles of Ancient Darkness and Gods and Warriors. Across the collection, the stories follow Torak and his wolf companion in a distant past of clans, spirits and dangerous magic, alongside Hylas, a boy hunted across the mountains and seas of Ancient Greece as he searches for his missing sister.

In Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, Torak is drawn into a struggle against a demon bear and later the Soul-Eaters, facing exile, treachery and harsh journeys through forests, islands and the Far North. In Gods and Warriors, Hylas is pursued by enemies known as the Crows, encountering slavers, mines, prophecy and ancient magic as his path leads from Greece to Keftiu and on to Egypt, where the search for the dagger of Koronos becomes increasingly perilous.

Synopses

Wolf Brother

In a time when the land is one vast forest, Torak is tasked with leading a demon-possessed bear to the mountain of the World Spirit. Alone and frightened after his father is killed, he sets out with only a wolf cub for company, in a world of spirits, Hidden People and perilous choices.

Spirit Walker

After the demon bear is destroyed, Torak is separated from Wolf in an avalanche. When a silent sickness threatens the Ravens, he must travel to the Seal Clan for a cure, where sea-bound life, unfamiliar customs and uncertain loyalties test his judgement.

Oath Breaker

Once hunted as an outcast, Torak becomes the hunter when he vows to avenge the death of a close friend. His pursuit takes him into hidden valleys of the Deep Forest, where he learns why he is the Spirit Walker and confronts the cost of revenge.

Out Cast

A secret revealed at the close of SOUL EATER leads to Torak being cast out from the clans in his fourteenth summer. Cut off from Wolf and Renn, he flees into the haunted reedbeds of Lake Axehead, where Hidden People and nearby threats close in as he uncovers a devastating deception.

Soul Eater

Reunited with Wolf after the Seal Islands, Torak is forced into a rescue when Wolf is taken. With Renn, he heads into the Far North and encounters deceit and powerful mages, including Thiazzi, Seshru, Nef and Eostra, as his struggle against the Soul-Eaters continues alongside a chilling secret.

Ghost Hunter

As winter nears and Souls' Night approaches, the Eagle Owl Mage spreads terror among the clans. Torak must seek the mage’s lair in the Mountain of Ghosts, while Wolf faces grief and Renn makes an agonising decision, leading to a final confrontation with a Soul-Eater.

The Outsiders

Hylas knows the Gods exist, magic is real, and someone wants him dead. Hunted and alone, he searches for his missing sister across the mountains and seas of Ancient Greece, guided by a wild dolphin and aided by a girl on the run, as enemies close in.

The Burning Shadow

Captured by slavers, Hylas is forced to work in the underground mines of Thalakrea, dangerously close to the Crows. Reunited with Pirra, the daughter of the High Priestess, their escape depends on ancient magic and an orphaned lion cub.

The Eye of the Falcon

With winter unending and the sky darkened by ash after the eruption of Thalakrea, Hylas is brought to the island of Keftiu. As cold, famine and plague ravage the island, he searches alone for Pirra and Havoc, fearing they may not have survived.

The Crocodile Tomb

Hylas and Pirra reach Egypt in pursuit of the dagger of Koronos, only to find the Crows have arrived first, led by Telamon. With the blade buried beyond mortal reach, they must attempt their most dangerous journey yet, into the realms of death.

Warrior Bronze

In the concluding volume of the Bronze Age epic, Hylas and Pirra return to Akea for a final confrontation with the Crows. To end the warriors’ brutal rule, they must recover the dagger of Koronos, but victory may demand a higher price than either expects.
