This three-book story collection set brings together Junji Ito’s horror manga in Deserter, Fragments of Horror and Sensor. Across the set, the descriptions range from mind-numbing terror to macabre and unsettling scenarios, presenting both early works and a later return to horror.

Deserter is presented as a hauntingly strange collection of a dozen of Ito’s earliest stories. Fragments of Horror gathers tales that move between the terrifying and the comedic, and includes a note that it is for older teen audiences. Sensor is described as a grand cosmic horror tale set against an ominous series of events beginning near Mount Sengoku.

Synopses

Deserter

A family hides an army deserter for eight years after the end of World War II, keeping him in a false reality where the war never ended. Elsewhere, two girls resemble each other without being twins, and a boy’s nightmare threatens to break into the real world. The collection is described as showcasing a dozen of Junji Ito’s earliest works.

Fragments of Horror

A collection of macabre tales featuring an old wooden mansion that turns on its inhabitants, a dissection class with an unusual subject, and a funeral where the dead are not laid to rest. The stories are described as ranging from terrifying to comedic, and from erotic to loathsome, marking a long-awaited return to horror. For older teen audiences.

Sensor

A woman walking alone at the foot of Mount Sengoku is approached by a man who invites her to a nearby village. The village is covered in hairlike volcanic glass fibres that shine bright gold. During a night-time custom of gazing at the stars, countless unidentified flying objects rain down, setting the stage for the terror to come.
