Little People Big Dreams Groundbreaking Women is a five-book gift set by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, bringing together true stories of women whose lives have shaped public life, law, education, climate activism and music. Each book introduces a different figure through key moments from childhood onwards, focusing on the experiences that influenced their choices and public actions.

The set includes Malala Yousafzai, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Michelle Obama, Greta Thunberg and Dolly Parton. From growing up in Pakistan and speaking out for girls’ education, to pursuing academic and legal ambitions, to beginning a protest outside the Swedish Parliament, these stories present a range of backgrounds and paths. Dolly Parton’s story follows her early life in Tennessee, her first performances on local radio and television, and her move to Nashville after high school.

Synopses

Malala Yousafzai

Born in Mingora, Pakistan, Malala’s father wanted her to have the same opportunities as a boy. She loved learning, but when a regime came to power, girls were no longer allowed to attend school. Malala spoke publicly about this and became a target for violence.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Ruth’s mother taught her to be independent and to define what it meant to be a lady for herself. Ruth set out to achieve what her mother had not been able to do. She excelled at university, became a law professor and later served on the supreme court, where she fought gender discrimination.

Michelle Obama

Michelle grew up on the South Side of Chicago in a close-knit family. She loved school, achieved A’s and worked hard at Princeton and Harvard. At the start of her legal career, she met Barack Obama.

Greta Thunberg

After learning about the climate crisis, Greta stopped talking and struggled to understand why those in power were not acting. She began protesting outside the Swedish Parliament. Her action became the ‘School Strike for Climate’.

Dolly Parton

This book introduces the life of Dolly Parton, described as a singer-songwriter and businesswoman. Growing up in Tennessee in a family ‘as poor as dirt’, she began performing early, singing on local radio and television. After graduating high school, she moved to Nashville to pursue her singing ambitions.
