From Bodegas Riojanas, Marqués de Peñamonte Colección Privada 2017 is a red wine presented in a cherry-red hue with garnet rims. On the nose, toasted notes of good wood sit alongside a clear varietal expression of ripe grapes, creating a profile that feels both composed and characterful. The palate shows a strong sense of structure, with ripe, meaty tannins that help give the wine its shape and poise. Bodegas Riojanas was founded in 1890 by the Artacho family together with Rafael Carreras, building on a deep family tradition in winemaking. A stone door built in 1799, originally providing access to the family vineyards, is preserved at the entrance to the winery. The estate’s early recognition includes prizes awarded before the foundation, including a gold medal at the Universal Exposition in Barcelona in 1888.
