Riva Leone Barbera holds DOC status (Denominazione di Origine Controllata), an Italian quality kitemark that requires the wine to meet defined standards and be produced within a specified region, with strict rules covering permitted grape varieties, harvest yields, minimum ageing, use of barrels and minimum alcohol content.
