From Masseria Borgo dei Trulli, this Primitivo 2023 is crafted from carefully selected grapes grown in low-yielding vineyards in the Province of Taranto, southern Puglia. Vinified with attention to preserving fruit character, the grapes are de-stemmed but not crushed, helping keep berries intact while optimising colour extraction.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 23–25°C for 8–10 days, with frequent remontage and délestage during fermentation to support a softer extraction of aromas and gentle tannins. After fermentation, 100% of the wine is matured in first and second year French oak barriques for 10 months, then cellar-aged for a further 4 months following bottling before release.
In the glass, it shows aromas of black cherries, prunes, spice and white pepper. The palate is full-bodied, velvety and elegant, with soft yet firm tannins and a long, lingering finish. A natural partner for pizza and pasta with rich meat sauces, it also works beautifully alongside lamb and mature cheeses.
