This three-book collection brings together Raynor Winn’s accounts of walking journeys shaped by upheaval, illness and the pull of the natural world. Across the set, Winn writes about travelling on foot through coastal paths and remote landscapes, and what it means to keep moving when life changes suddenly.

From the South West Coast Path to Scotland’s Cape Wrath Trail, these narratives follow Raynor and her husband, Moth, as they face uncertainty and seek solace outdoors. The books explore the contrast between wilderness and civilisation, and return to the idea that time in nature can offer a form of restoration.

Landlines

Raynor Winn knows her husband Moth’s health is declining and believes there is one cure that has worked before. Together they consider another long walk, this time taking on the Cape Wrath Trail, a route of over two hundred miles through some of Scotland’s most remote mountains and lochs. Drawn north by wilderness and the beauty of the glens, they hope nature can help again.

The Wild Silence

In 2016, days before they were unjustly evicted from their home, Raynor Winn was told that her husband Moth was dying. Rather than give up, they set out on the 630-mile South West Coast Path, relying on their wits, determination and love of nature. When the journey ends and they return to civilisation, they find four walls feel like a prison, separating them from the sea and sky that sustained them.

The Salt Path

Days after Raynor learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years, is terminally ill, their home is taken away and they lose their livelihood. With little time and nothing left, they decide to walk the 630 miles of the South West Coast Path, travelling from Somerset to Dorset via Devon and Cornwall. Carrying only essentials, they live wild among cliffs, sea and sky in an ancient, weathered landscape.
