Synopses

Corpus

In 1936, Europe is in turmoil as the Nazis march into the Rhineland, Stalin unleashes the Great Terror and Spain erupts in civil war. In an exclusive London club, a conspiracy is launched that threatens the heart of government. When a renowned society couple with fascist leanings are found brutally murdered, Thomas Wilde is pulled into a world of espionage, with links to the girl with the silver syringe and the scandal surrounding the Abdication.

Nucleus

June 1939 finds England in celebration, even as the Nazis invade Czechoslovakia, Jewish persecution in Germany is widespread and the IRA begins a bombing campaign. In Germany, Otto Hahn produces man-made fission, making an atomic device possible, and German High Command believes Cambridge’s Cavendish Laboratory is also close. When one of the Cavendish’s finest brains is murdered, Professor Tom Wilde is drawn into an investigation that stretches from Cambridge to Berlin, and from the US to Ireland.

Nemesis

In a great English house, a young woman offers herself to one of the most powerful figures in the land, as part of a plan to ensure his death. On holiday in France, Professor Tom Wilde discovers his student Marcus Marfield in the Le Vernet concentration camp in the foothills of the Pyrenees, after Marfield disappeared two years earlier to join the International Brigades in Spain. Wilde secures his release as German tanks roll into Poland.
