The Traditional Meadow Wildflower Seeds from Traditional Meadow are a perennial-dominant wildflower seed mix designed to create a natural-looking meadow that supports pollinators and local wildlife. Made up of 100% native British wildflower species, this carefully selected blend is suited to garden meadows, landscaping projects, meadow restoration and transforming traditional lawns into more biodiverse spaces.

Species named in the mix include Ox-eye Daisy, Yellow Rattle, Cornflower, Common poppy, Field Forget-me-not and Corncockle. Annual species such as Borage, Corncockle, Cornflower and Field Poppy should generally flower in the first year, while most perennial species establish more gradually over time. Once established, the mix requires minimal maintenance and can naturalise through self-seeding, helping to build a lasting meadow habitat that flowers from spring through autumn.

Key features

  • 100% native British wildflower species
  • Perennial-dominant mix with annual and perennial species
  • Includes Ox-eye Daisy, Yellow Rattle, Cornflower, Common poppy, Field Forget-me-not and Corncockle
  • Suitable for garden meadows, landscaping projects, meadow restoration and traditional lawns
  • Designed to support bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects
  • Flowers from spring through autumn
  • UK and EU provenance seed sources

Care

  • Sow between March and November; spring and autumn are ideal, with autumn often best for overseeding into grass
  • Use on low-nutrient soil for best results and prepare a fine, firm seedbed before sowing
  • Sow at 3 grams per square meter
  • Mix seed with an inert carrier such as sharp sand at a ratio of 4 parts sand to 1 part seed by weight for more even distribution
  • After sowing, lightly rake or roll to ensure good seed-to-soil contact
  • Remove weeds before they set seed by topping, mowing or hand-weeding in smaller areas
  • Cut once flowers have died back in autumn, then cut down to about 10 cm and leave cuttings for up to a week before removing
  • For established areas, follow the same annual cutting pattern and continue to monitor invasive weeds
  • When overseeding into existing grassland, include at least two cuts each year, around March and November, to reduce grass competition
