Synopses

The White Giraffe

At eleven, Martine is orphaned and sent to live with her grandmother on a game reserve in South Africa. Her grandmother is unwelcoming, and Martine finds it hard to settle at her new school, where she stands out as an outsider. She finds an ally in Tendai, one of the reserve’s keepers, who teaches her bush lore and survival techniques, and in Grace, who senses there is something special about her.

In June, during winter in South Africa, Martine and her grandmother discover a stranded, dying dolphin on the beach. Martine uses her gift of healing to help it back to the ocean. The incident is part of a series of unexplained beachings of dolphins and whales, and marks the beginning of a new adventure.
